Fumio Asakura(1883-1964)the initiator od Japanese modern sculpture, took almost seven years to complete this building in 1935 as his own studio and residence. Fumio Asakura's vision and world are expressed by the unique structure of both Western and Japanese architecture unified and harmonized, and also by the bronze works Evolution, Grave Keeper, etc. displayed in the studio.

The Calligraphy Museum has many valuable materials on the study of tortoise-shell inscriptions, bronzevessels, stone monuments, Chinese rubbings, ancient Chinese manuscripts, Chinese and Japanese calligraphy, which Fusetsu Nakamura, the oil painter and the calligrapher, had collected all by himself. You can learn the history of Chinese characters and enjoy appreciating calligraphies.
